Gums Drying / Lecithin Production
Gums Drying / Lecithin Production
During the degumming stage of edible oil refining, gums are separated from crude oil. These gums contain phospholipids, oil, and moisture. Instead of treating them as waste, they can be processed into high-value lecithin through a controlled drying and finishing process.
Wet gums obtained from the degumming process are first conditioned, heated, and subsequently processed through a series of scraped surface heat exchangers and evaporators, where moisture is progressively removed to achieve very low residual levels i.e. < 0.5%. The drying is carried out in multiple stages under controlled vacuum conditions to ensure efficient moisture reduction. The final product is light in colour, enhancing its commercial value.

Key Features
Powder Lecithin: Dried gums are processed further for Lecithin powder manufacturing where the lipid portion is extracted with the solvent acetone and further dried with spray drying technique to get quality product. Soy Lecithin in all forms is a very good emulsifier and is typically used in confectionaries, bakery products and pharmaceutical industries.
