Structured Packings
Structured Packings
Structured packings are a type of internals used inside mass transfer columns for attaining optimum efficiency in respect of making availability of maximum per M3 surface area! This feature facilitates efficient mass transfer in distillation columns like stripping & scrubbing. In stripping columns low boiling contaminants are stripped out from mainstream process liquids whereas in scrubbing, distilled vapors are scrubbed by direct contact with liquid. There can be a mixture of contaminants and vapors with varying boiling and liquefying temperature this feature can be exploited smartly to get advanced features in stripping as well as scrubbing systems.
These structured packings are designed in respect to the characteristics / specs. of the fluids to be handled.
Unlike random packing (which is dumped randomly) or trays, structured packing consists of a set of bundles stacked uniformly, with a top liquid distributor providing an optimized passage for the fluids to flow with minimal pressure drop, ensuring uniform distillation / scrubbing efficiency across the column. set of bundles stacked uniformly at the top uniform liquid distributor provides optimized passage for the fluids to flow providing minimal pressure drop to have uniform distillation / scrubbing efficiency across the column.
